Thawing
Unknown flaring
The knee groans
Angry to straighten
Unhappy to bend
The joys of the final hours
Farewell forty-two
Good morning forty-three
Awakening to a new joint
Thankful the warranty was good
Hoping this new knee lasts
Who knew springtime renewal
Carried over to my lower limbs
Walking through the forest
Welcoming the returns of the season
The chirps and songs of birds
The soft squish of thawing mud
Trickling runoff
Accompanied by the smell of dirt
Peaty smells of Spring
The thaw of old grasses
The renewed rot of leaves
All brings the sweet scent
The scent of renewal
The anticipation of summer wafts upon these
odors.
Perhaps this is the answer
My wonky knee thawing
Following the lead of dirt
Cartilage and ligament
Needing to take a day
To rid itself of winter’s frost.
TUESDAY…
--- Alone at work. Busy too.
WEDNESDAY…
--- Still busy thanks to things being
backed up over the IT foolishness. IT is
there to basically be a nuisance for a few hours of the day. Always bizarre when it is set up so that a
high priority department must be at the disposal of the IT crew… rather than
the other way around. They’ll update
programs… eventually… when it’s convenient.
And will go to lunch for two hours without a word. Needless to say, shoe impression work didn’t
get done as well as it could of today. I
was alone yesterday, night shift was also alone. And now the IT fiasco.
--- Mona is around after lunch and working
through the SICAR as best as we can.
THURSDAY…
--- My birthday. Get cupcakes delivered to the door thanks to
Sister. And get free pizza at work
during nightshift, thanks to Mona. By the
end of shift we have things pretty much back under control. But it’s been several days of catch up.
FRIDAY…
--- Alone at work again. I’m tired before nightshift ever starts. That’s never a good sign. And it’s not super busy tonight but things just
keep coming in fairly consistently up until 3:30 or so.
SATURDAY…
--- Tired and lounging around the
house. By supper time I’m starting to
get energy back… and go to the movies with Sarah and Phil in the evening. It Follows… is alright. Sort of a bit more original than most horror
movies. But not as scary as I’d have
expected. Suspense is a good thing… and
this movie has plenty of that… but you also need some payoff. And that’s where it lagged. “It” was only actually seen “following” three
or four times through the entire movie.
And “It” only caught what it “Followed” twice.
SUNDAY…
--- Not feeling too great today. Shoot through the daily limit of Tums from
about 4:00 AM through to lunch time. Not
sure if it was yesterday’s supper, desert, or movie popcorn that did it. My money is on the popcorn. Perhaps this was the “Following” that the
“It” was doing.
MONDAY…
--- Feeling better today. Do a walk and meet up with Jennifer (Karl’s
wife) in the evening. First time I’ve
seen the dog. Always nice being around a
dog. Also play lots of catch up with
Karl’s paintings. Most of the ones
Jennifer has hanging I never saw before.
Karl sure was busy painting those last few years of his life.
--- Groceries are picked up after I leave
there.
TUESDAY…
--- Wake early. Hasn’t been a good set of days off for
sleep. I’m away around 3:30 and stay
awake for about an hour. Good to get
back to sleep after that… stay in bed until close to 10:00.
--- Do another walk. Bring the GoPro video camera and take a video
of the melting snow and water. Good to
see.
